Terms and Conditions

Effective date: 10 May 2026 · Last updated: 10 May 2026

Please read these Terms carefully before using the J&J League Australia platform. By creating an account, entering a competition, or otherwise using the platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.

1. About This Platform

J&J League Australia operates an online platform for the management of Bachata Jack and Jill competitions in Australia. The platform is operated from Australia and is governed by Australian law.

2. Eligibility

  • You must be at least 15 years of age to create an account.
  • By registering, you confirm that the information you provide is accurate, complete, and up to date.
  • Competitors may self-declare their tier and dance role. Intentional misrepresentation of your skill tier is a breach of these Terms and may result in account suspension.
  • Competition Owners must apply and receive Admin approval before creating events. Approval is at our sole discretion.

3. Account Registration and Security

When you create an account, you are responsible for:

  • Keeping your password and login credentials confidential
  • All activity that occurs under your account
  • Notifying us immediately of any unauthorised use of your account

You must not create more than one Competitor account. Guest competitor entries created by Competition Owners can be claimed after registering, subject to owner approval.

4. Competition Rules and Standings

  • Standing points are awarded based on placement only — never derived from raw scores.
  • Points are tracked separately per tier (Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, Professional) and per dance role (Leader, Follower).
  • If a tier does not reach the minimum competitor count before a competition begins, that tier is cancelled and no points are awarded.
  • Tied placements share the same rank (displayed as "= N"). The next rank skips by the number of tied competitors.
  • Raw judging scores are private to the competitor, the Competition Owner, and Platform Admins. They are never published publicly.
  • The top 5 results per tier per role per competition are published publicly without requiring a login.
  • Competition Owners may correct results within 24 hours of publishing. All corrections are logged with reasons.
  • We reserve the right to recalculate standings or correct results where an error is identified.

5. Competition Owner Responsibilities

If you are approved as a Competition Owner, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate and complete information about each competition
  • Set appropriate minimum competitor counts for each tier before the competition begins
  • Notify registered competitors promptly of any material changes, cancellations, or tier cancellations
  • Ensure that judging is carried out fairly and that judge identity is recorded accurately
  • Not share or disclose raw judging scores to anyone other than the competitor and Platform Admins
  • Use the platform only for legitimate Bachata Jack and Jill competitions
  • Pay any applicable event fees as notified at the time of event creation

Competition Owners may invite Co-Organisers per event. Co-Organisers have the same permissions as the Owner for that event only and access expires automatically when results are published. The Competition Owner is responsible for all actions taken by their Co-Organisers.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Register with false or misleading personal information
  • Attempt to manipulate competition results, standings, or judging scores
  • Access or attempt to access another user's account or private data
  • Scrape, harvest, or systematically collect data from the platform without our written consent
  • Use the platform in a way that violates any applicable Australian law
  • Upload content that is defamatory, offensive, or infringes third-party intellectual property rights
  • Interfere with the operation of the platform or introduce malicious code

7. Withdrawal and Cancellation

  • Competitors may withdraw from a competition entry. Withdrawal status is recorded (Withdrawn, Did Not Start, or Did Not Finish). Reinstatement is possible if the Competition Owner allows it within the permitted window.
  • A Competition Owner may cancel a competition at any time with a required reason. Cancelled competitions are archived and no points are awarded.
  • Refund or financial compensation for cancelled competitions is governed by the Competition Owner's own terms and is outside the scope of this platform.

8. Intellectual Property

All content on the J&J League Australia platform — including the logo, design, text, code, and compiled standings data — is the intellectual property of J&J League Australia or its licensors, protected by Australian copyright law.

You retain ownership of content you submit (such as a profile photo). By uploading, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display that content on the platform while your account is active.

9. Privacy

Our collection and use of your personal information is governed by our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms. By using the platform, you consent to our privacy practices as described in that policy.

10. Disclaimers

The platform is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. We do not warrant that:

  • The platform will be available without interruption or error
  • Results or standings data will always be error-free
  • The platform will be free from security vulnerabilities at all times

Nothing in these Terms excludes rights you may have under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth) or other Australian consumer protection legislation.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by law, J&J League Australia is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss or damage. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the fees, if any, you paid to us in the 12 months prior to the claim.

12. Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time if you breach these Terms or if we reasonably believe your account is being used fraudulently. You may close your account at any time by contacting us. Closure does not remove published competition results that form part of the historical record.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make a material change, we will update the “Last updated” date and notify registered users by email where appropriate. Continued use of the platform after the effective date of any change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

14. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Queensland, Australia, and the laws of the Commonwealth of Australia as applicable. You agree to submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Queensland for resolution of any dispute. We encourage you to contact us first to resolve any dispute informally.
